"The Rock"

This week in Room 38, we were learning about rural life in Newfoundland and also about St. John's, Newfoundland. Daniel learned that St. John's is the biggest city in Newfoundland and it is also the capital. People call Newfoundland "The Rock". There are lots of colourful houses in St. John's with lots of windows. Nate noticed that the roads are hilly. There are stores in St. John's that are the same as in Winnipeg, such as Subway and Starbucks. Mrs. Pilat's dad worked in the government building in St. John's and she was born in St. John's. Fishing is really famous in Newfoundland.  Giant squids live in the Atlantic Ocean near St. John's. Fishermen thought they were sea monsters, as they were up to 20 meters long! WOW!!!
We also started to have "Daily 6" this week. There are centres that we choose from, such as listening centre, reading to self, reading to someone, book clubs, work on writing and word work. Jacob. H enjoys book clubs the most. Nate and Myles like read to someone. Alex enjoys reading to self.

In math, we started to learn about DOUBLES. Jasmyn knows that 10+10=20 and Mitchel knows that 25+25=50.
