An AWESOME week learning about Canada

I can't believe that we are starting to learn about Canada. It's so EXCITING! To start, we made dictionaries with Canadian words, such as "Voyageur" and "Aboriginal". Now we know how to spell some harder Canadian words.
Another activity we did was sorting animals that were important for the Cree and the Voyageur. We used stuffed animals and sorted important and not important ones. At the same time, we learned the animal names in French. When this was done, Mrs. Pilat brought out coyote, rabbit and muskrat fur. We passed them around.
Today, Nate's grandma, Mrs. Archer, came in to visit. She brought lots of Aboriginal artifacts to share. We got to pass around a medicine pouch, a talking stick, a bald eagle feather, a mini drum, birch bark, bead art on a moose hide and a tomahawk head. Mrs. Archer brought in different kinds of medicine, such as sage, tobacco and cedar. After, we got to write our name on a piece of birchbark.
It was a busy week but we had lots of fun learning about CANADA!
