BIG BEAUTIFUL BISON

It was a short but busy week for our class. We started off by learning about bison or buffalo. David learned that different First Nations used bison blood for pudding, soup and paint. Alex learned that the brains were eaten for food. Gerri learned that a Metis hunter would put a stone with a coloured cloth by a bison that he shot. The hunter's wife would go out and find her husbands stone and claim the bison. Braeden learned that dung was used for baby powder. Jasmyn didn't know that hunters used hair to make halters for their horses. Alexis learned that some First Nations wore wolf skin to scare the bison so that they would run away.
We had a speaker named Ted Longbottom come to our school. He taught us about Aboriginal people by telling stories and singing songs. He told us a funny story about a walking fish. His friend dressed up like a Voyageur and a bison. It was funny!
This week, we also had Canadian money centres. We were using iPads, the Smartboard and playing games to help us learn. On Wednesday, we did Jets Math. We got to compare the Jets to different NHL teams.
